Complications Hip Joint Replacement

Complex deformities can develop because of complications associated with joint replacement surgery. The reason for failure of the implant (or of the bone around the implant) might be infection, aseptic loosening or fractures. In case of infection the implant should be removed completely and after the infection has settled re-implantation can be performed.
Aseptic loosening can be caused by wear debris leading to breakdown of bone around the prosthesis. Malalignment of the implant because of a fracture can contribute to abnormal loading and implant loosening.
The success rate of revision surgery is generally less predictable compared to primary implantation.
