The femoral component of the implant is a metal stem with a ceramic or metal ball on the end. The acetabular component is a metal shell with an inner ceramic, polyethylene or metal liner that acts like a bearing.

For my patients I prefer to use a prosthesis that allows bone to grow into its surface. I use a less invasive hip approach whenever possible for primary surgery. Please read about less invasive philosophy under the menu "Less Invasive".
